ABOUT
The China–Kazakhstan Joint Laboratory of Remote Sensing Technology and Application (RST&A) was officially inaugurated on March 27, 2024. Jointly established by the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University with Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography, Chinese Academy of Sciences, the laboratory serves as an important platform for Kazakhstan-China scientific and technological cooperation under the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative.

The laboratory focuses on remote sensing technology and geographic information systems, with key research directions including ecological and environmental monitoring in Central Asia, climate change adaptation, and agricultural resource management. It is committed to providing scientific and technological support for regional sustainable development and improving people’s livelihoods.

To further promote academic exchange and scientific cooperation in remote sensing between China and Central Asian countries, RST&A will host the “2026 Annual Academic Conference of the China–Kazakhstan Joint Laboratory of Remote Sensing Technology and Applications and the I Central Asia-China Symposium on Remote Sensing Technology and Applications,” to be held in Almaty, Kazakhstan, from June 26 to 29, 2026.
